Waterpokken / Chickenpox

Joram was vier-en-een-half toen hij de waterpokken kreeg. Het was een week voor de zomervakantie en ze zaten echt overal. Op zijn handpalmen, zijn voetzolen en zelfs op meer intiemere delen. Maar op een een of andere manier kwamen ze niet rond zijn navel. Sinds dat Joram een baby was gaf ik zijn navel al kusjes. Dat werd ons eigen 'ding'. Dus toen je vroeg waarom je nu geen waterpokken bij je navel had was het antwoord eigenlijk heel simpel: Omdat mama je daar kusjes geeft. Nu is Joram bijna acht en nog steeds krijgt zijn navel kusjes, maar hij weet ook nog steeds dat er geen waterpokken zaten.

Joram was four-and-a-half when he got the chickenpox. It was a week before summer vacation and they were everywhere. He had pox on the pams of his hands, on the soles of his feet and even on more private parts. But somehow they never showed up around his bellybutton. Ever since Joram was a baby I would be kissing his bellybutton. So when he asked why the pox were not there, the answer was easy: Because your mommy always kisses you there. Joram is now almost eight and I still kiss his bellybutton, but he also still remembers that he did not have chickenpox around his bellybutton.
