Last night it was Ladies Night in the Pathe theatre and besides the four regulars Elise joined us. Normally she can never make it, but this time she did. We started with dinner by the Effenaar (always good) and after that the movie: Mamma Mia the Movie. And OMG, did we enjoy that movie! A great movie with all the ABBA songs, a theatre full of singing women. Even though the songs are more than thirty years old we all know them by head. A real feel good movies that takes place on a little Greek island and is filled with romance, humour and great actors. There's quite some movies that I would like to see again but this one was soooooooooooo good, I would like to go again toninight! But for the ones who do not want to miss te movie: It premieres in The Netherlands on the 17th of July. Get those ABBA cd's out!

Moeder-kind skaten / Mother-child skating
In Gerwen was niets meer open en uiteindelijk zijn we in Nuenen bij de Italiaan terechtgekomen waar we een heerlijk ijsje hebben gegeten. De kinderen hadden het verdiend!
Sunday night I skate with a couple of mothers from school. Besides the fact that it is really good for our bodies, we also have a great time. We start our route in Gerwen and do the tour by the canal and finish again in Gerwen where we end our evening on a terrace with a nice cool drink. During one of our tours the idea came up to do a mother-child skate. And not to end out route with a drink but with an ice cream. A date was set (last night) and Joram could hardly wait. Everybody who has been looking outside lately knows that the weather wasn't really our best friend. So the chances were high on the whole thing being blown off. When the time was there a lot of moms were already on vacation and left the country so Joram and Nienke were the only two children left. But that was not bad at all and only the rain could spoil it. Diana and I agreed that if it would not rain after five pm that we would go and skate. We were lucky and we only had a few drops when we were in the car on our way to Gerwen. We got what we deserved because when we finished our tour it started to poor! Skating with the children was awesome, we did a tour that was about 6 kilometers long and the kids had a great time. On the first bit of the route Joram tripped over a brench and landed right on top of a huge slug. Eeeeeeek.......... when they say slug are slimey you have to believe it. Joram was covered with slime and we had to roll his sweater up to make sure we did not have to look at the flat crushed slug the whole time (which we were unable to get of his sweater, the thing was stuck!). At the end of our skating experience the slug turned out to be better than tacky glue because his sweater was stuck. Alas...... Joram had a good laugh about it, he landed softly and for all you know he would have fallen in the big pile of horse poo that was a couple of metres ahead.
In Gerwen nothing was open anymore so we went to the Italian ice cream parlor in Nuenen where we had the best ice cream. The children definetely deserved it!

Zomervakantie! / Summer vacation!

Summer vacation has started! It gives met both a great and sad feeling. We said goodbye to the greatest teacher. Saying goodbye is not my thing.............. We were supposed to go to the playground with almost all Joram class mates (and brothers, sisters and ofcourse parents) but that days weather did not really helped us there: It was raining cats and dogs the whole afternoon. Elise proposed a 'goodbye' drink at her house and so four moms and seven children headed there. With two of her three children there, she had nine (really!) children up in her attic. And if you believe it or not: Nothing wrong has been said or done.
Wednesday Joram came home with his report card. In the first and second grade they also got sort of a report card but grades, achievements and acclomplishments were not mentioned. That was different this year. Joram has a very hard time with reading, but other than that he had a great report card. And now: It's vacation time! For everybody: A very good summer.

Samen / Together
When sportsday was finished Joram went to Merel where the little pool was already filling up. They had a good time together (and the moms watched with a drink and a snack). But it was still very warm and the sun can be quite mean at that time of day (my shoulders got a sunburn today, even though I used sunscreen quite a bit) so sunscreen had to be put on. So good that the children are turning older and do more and more by there selves. No mothers that are putting sunscreen on them, we do that all by ourselves! And that makes pretty good pictures!
Sportdag / Sportsday
Today was schools sportsday. Last year it was cancelled because of the weather (rain) and thank goodness the forecast was great this year, it was going ot be warm. Even though there's always an alternate program for when it rains, the kids like it so much better when they can do the actual sportsevent. I was asked to be the photographer today and nothing better to take pictures of running children who have no clue that they are being put on film. Richard was a groups leader from Joram and other children from his class. They all had a great time and there was lots of sweat. Fortunately the organization thought of that well (Did I expect any different?) and there was sunscreen, water and popsicles. One of the nicest things about days like this, is that all grades are busy and having fun together. Two more days of school and then it's summer vacation!
