Mini Challenge #6

During the Fresh Face Designer Contest there's, beside the main challenge, a weekly mini challenge. Most of the times it's something not to time consuming like a puzzle, a search or even the challenge to make a card. Boy, was I amazed when I read this weeks mini challenge: Make your own Glossy! As a model you need a sort of portfolio where agencies that see your photos and read general information about you, like your weight, height, sizes and other important information for models. Talk about a mini challenge! (Thanks Tara! :)) Anyways, I had no idea what to do and the idea of that portfolio folder kept popping up in my head the whole time. So I decided to a actually make a portfolio folder. Not as plain as the models have (after all I am a scrapper, not a model) but someting altered and more attractive. So I made this cover of chipboard and adhered a magnetic closure before covering it with patterned paper. I wanted to keep the private information (who needs to know that I am 6ft1" and have 9.5 shoesize?) a bit private so I made a little set of envelopes connected and put pieces of cardstock in there with all the information. Beside a close up photo of your face it was also recommended to use a 'full body' photo! Geeeh, first major challenge in this mini challenge, but I did find one. Last August my cousin and I posed together because everybody kept saying we look like twins. So I cropped her off the photo (Sorry, Pascal!) and used that one. That is actually an okay photo. I shows my style of clothing and I wear heels!

Challenge #5

Challenge #5 for the Fresh Face Contest was a fun one. The theme of this week was: 'The Diet'. A strict diet where a lot of things were not allowed. No patterned paper, no stickers, no ready made chipboard and in moderation we we allowed to use: bling, rhinestones, brads and buttons. A great challenge. One of my points of criticism in todays scrapbooking is that there's a visible trend of putting as much supplies (read money) on your layouts as possible. First of all: The majority of the scrapbookers don't have the money to spend on such amount of supplies. And second: There's a huge stash of supplies lying around that we still need to use (Ever thought of the fact that we call the Christmas line of patterned paper from last year 'old'???) So this was a fun challenge.

Christmas Cards / Kerstkaarten

Every year I promise myself to start making Christmas cards on time. But it never works out that way! A long time ago I decided to only send cards to meaningful people. So it's not about breaking the 'Who send the most Chrostmas cards' record. Yesterdday evening I started making them. That is an achievement to begin with because there were years where I only made one card (for Marjan, our yearly Christmas tradition) and put it in her mailbox at Christmas eve. I made it not too complicated this year and made all the same cards (except for Marjans, she is getting a special one) I started working with Nestabilities, ribbon and Distress ink and I am pretty content with the final result. Now they only have to go in the mail!

Ieder jaar neem ik me voor om vroeg te beginnen met het maken van kerstkaarten. Maar ieder jaar lukt dat niet. Ik heb al heel lang geleden besloten om alleen kerstkaarten te sturen aan mensen aan mensen die me dierbaar zijn en dus niet alleen maar kerstkaarten te sturen om het record 'Wie heeft de meeste kerstkaarten verstuurd?' te verbeteren. Gisterenavond ben ik begonnen met met maken van kerstkaarten. Dat is op zich al een hele prestatie want er zijn jaren bij dat ik er maar eentje maakte (en dan voor Marjan, want dat is onze traditie) en die dan op kerstavond nog even snel bij haar in de bus gooide. Ik besloot om het dit jaar niet zo heel ingewikkeld te maken en voor iedereen dezelfde kaarten te maken (behalve dan weer voor Marjan, want die krijgt een bijzondere). Ik ben aan de slag gegaan met de Nestablilities, lint en Distress inkt en het resultaat mag er wezen! Nu nog op de post!

Sinterklaas

Last Friday night it was Presents night, THE evening where Sinterklaas (please read the Wiki link, if you are not familiar with the phenomenon, LOL) leaves presents for children. All those years Sinterklaas comes to our street on the Saturday and all those years we openend the presents after he visited our street. But this year Joram started to ask questions. Why does sinterklaas does not come by our house on Presents night? Besides that question Joram had a lot more: Mommy, those black Petes are fake, they did not have black make-up in their ears! Mommy, this Sinterklaas is not the same one as the one who visited school yesterday (and he was so right, for the first time in years the one in our street and the one at Jorams school were different) So yes: The doubting has begun!

We went out for dinner on Friday night and when we came back there was a sack with presents in our hall. There was even a note from Sinterklaas that he heard that Joram rather wanted his presents in that night and that Sinterklaas made that happen. Joram was stunned! After unwrapping the presents with hot cocoa and cookies he went to bed as a happy camper. But; another question came up: Mommy, how is it possible that Sinterklaas knows what gifts all the children would like to have?



Afgelopen vrijdag was het Pakjesavond, DE avond waarop Sinterklaas zijn zak met pakjes bij de kinderen achterlaat. Al jaren komt Sinterklaas op de zaterdag bij ons in de straat en al die jaren pakten wij daarna de pakjes uit. Maar dit jaar ging Joram vragen stellen over pakjesavond. Waarom komt sinterklaas bij andere kinderen wel op pakjesavond en bij ons niet? Overigens waren er nog andere vragen die Joram stelde: Mama, die zwarte pieten zijn nep, zij hebben hun oren niet goed geschminkt! Deze Sinterklaas (in de straat) is niet dezelfde als op school (En de pech is: Al jaren komt wel dezelfde Sint in de straat en op school. De twijfel is toegeslagen!)
We gingen vrijdagavond lekker uit eten en toen bleek er, toen we thuiskwamen, een zak met pakjes in de gang te staan. Er zat een brief bij van Sinterklaas die zei dat ie gehoord had dat Joram zijn pakjes graag op

pakjesavond wilde hebben en dat hij daar maar naar geluisterd had. Joram was helemaal verbijsterd!

Na heerlijk pakjes te hebben uitgepakt onder het genot van warme chocolademelk en speculaas kon hij tevreden naar bed. Maar er kwam toch nog een vraag: Mama, hoe komt het dat Sinterklaas precies weet welk kind welk cadeautje wil hebb

en?

WeScrap Contest Challenge #4

Yesterday the voting results from last weekend came in and: I am still in!!!!!!! So challenge #4 was posted and I right away started it and I am done already! We all had to pick four numbers between 1 and 15. Each number was already been assigned a certain technique or product type. I picked 4, 7, 8 & 12. Nobody knew what the matching technique or product was when they picked their numbers.

These were the four products/techniques that I had to use:

4-Use a song, quote, or poem in your layout.

7-Use at least 5 flowers

8-Use at least 5 buttons

12- Use chipboard and either paint it, chalk it or cover it.

Every last friday evening of the month there's a children activity night at the Philips farm here by the Wasven. Those are very fun nights and Joram always loves to go there and really enjoys it. This nights theme was birds of prey. Lots was told about the birds and there were even real birds of prey there. Joram even got to hold a screech-owl! It is fun to know that here in Tongerle there's still lots of birds of prey and even owls. Joram even took a owls ball home. We have to look for owls balls here in the woods someday. There are supposed to be many of them and now we know what they look like!

Iedere laatste vrijdagavond van de maand is er bij de Philipsboerderij in het Wasven een activiteiten avond voor kinderen. Altijd een hele leuke avond en Joram gaat er altijd met heel veel plezier naar toe. Afgelopen vrijdagavond ging het over roofvogels. Er werd heel veel verteld over de roofvogels en er waren zelfs echte roofvogels. Joram heeft zelf een echte kerkuil vastgehouden! Heel bijzonder is toch om te weten dat er hier in Tongelre ook veel roofvogels en zelfs uilen zitten. Joram kreeg zelfs een echte uilenbal mee naar huis. We moeten toch eens hier in het bos uilenballen gaan zoeken. Er schijnen er genoeg te liggen en ik weet nu hoe ze er uit zien!

What a surprise I found this morning in my comments! I received the Kreativ Blogger Award! I received the award from Jacquelin. Jacquelin, Thanks! I got to know Jacquelin at the WeScrap community where we both participate in the Fresh Face Design Contest (we're halfway now and still in!) Jacquelin has a great blog to visit, she makes very nice LO's and she takes awesome photo's. Pay her blog a visit!

3. Paula, Paula is from Spain and she has an awesome blog about craft storage. Tons and tons of ideas. I got posted their a couple of times and there are always great ideas on her blog.
4. Jacqui, Jacqui is from South Africa and has a great blog with stories about scrapping but also about every day life. Shei s also one of the participants in the Fresh Face designers Contest.
5. Anne Marie, I got to know Anne Marie when I attended GotSketch 102. She is an awesome designer and is also one of the founders of Inspired Blueprints, my favorite sketch site!

Wat een verrassing toen ik vanmorgen bij mijn commentaren keek. Ik had een Kreative Blogger award gekregen! Ik heb the onderscheiding ontvangen van Jacquelin. Jacquelin, bedankt! Ik heb haar leren kennen bij WeScrap waar we beiden deelnemers zijn van de Fresh Face Designer Contest (we zijn halverwege en nog steeds niet weggestemd!) Jacquelin heeft ene hele leuke blog vol met scrapdingen en ze maakt prachtige foto's. De moeite waard om eens langs te wippen.

De onderscheiding kent een paar simpele regels:

3. Paula, Paula komt uit Spanje en heeft een geweldig blog met daarop allemaal tips over hoe je je eigen creatieve ruimte goed kan inrichten en op welke manieren je dingen op kunt bergen. Ik ben in de loop der tijd een aantal keer genoemd op haar blog en je kunt er zoveel ideeen vinden. Een echte must als je je eigen scrapkamer wilt inrichten.
4. Jacqui, Jacqui komt uit Zuid Afrika en heeft een leuke blog met creatieve dingen en belevenissen uit het dagelijks leven. Jacqui is ook een van de deelnbemers van de Fresh Face Designer Contest.
5. Anne Marie, Ik heb Anne Marie leren kennen atoen ik de online klass GotSketch 102 volgde. Zij is een geweldige ontwerper en zij is ook een van de oprichters van Inspired Blueprints, mijn favoriete schets site!
