Birthday gift for Teacher / Verjaardagscadeau voor de Juf

Nothing harder than thinking of a birthday present for a teacher. Since Joram's teacher Miss Jill announced the celebrating of her birthday only a few days before the actual 'party' we had hardly time to arrange something. Normally the children in class would make something for her but that was nearly impossible this time.

Joram went on a field trip Tuesday and I went along as a class parent and was seated beside one of the other teachers. Jill just moved and so I could ask her collegae about her interior. She has all natural colors in her house so the first part of my chore was done!

The second part was even harder: Thinking about what to make and then make it in only a few hours (the field trip was on Tuesday and Jill celebrated her birthday on Wednesday.............aaaaaargh).

This is what I came up with. I made a punch collage in a frame with a quote about teaching, all in the colors that would match her interior.

Even though I as pretty stressed about the little amount of time I had I was pretty content with the final result. And even better: Jill loved it.

Her goodbye present will be made by the children in her class, I promise.......................


Niets moelijker dan het verzinnen van een cadeautje voor een leerkracht. Helemaal omdat Joram's juf Jill het vieren van haar verjaardag maar een paar dagen van tevoren aankondigde. Normaal gesproken maken we altijd iets met de kinderen in de klas maar dat was deze keer onmogelijk.

Joram is afgelopen dinsdag op schoolreisje geweest en ik ging mee als klassenouder. In de bus zat ik naast een van de andere leerkrachten en kon toen een beetje vissen naar het interieur van het huis van Jill. Ze is net verhuisd dus de collega's waren op bezoek geweest. Ik kwam er achter dat ze allemaal natuurlijke kleuren in haar huis heeft: Deel een van de opdracht was volbracht!

Het tweede gedeelte van de opdracht was een stuk lastiger. De schoolreis was op dinsdag en Jill vierde haar verjaardag op woensdag. Ik had dus maar een paar uur om iets te bedenken en het dan ook nog te maken........Aaaaargh.
Dit is wat ik bedacht had: Ik heb in een lijst een collage gemaakt van uitgeponste rondjes en daarbij een quote over het lesgeven. Allemaal in de kleuren die in haar interieur passen.

Ondanks de race tegen de klok ben ik toch tevreden over het uiteindelijke resultaat. En nog beter: Jill vond het helemaal leuk.

Haar afscheidskado wordt wel door de kinderen gemaakt. Beloofd is beloofd...................

Scrapped gift for friends / Een cadeau voor vrienden gescrapt

Friends of ours celebrated their birthdays last weekend and I knew she liked my scrapping items that I have hanging on the wall over the dinner table. She send me some pics of her three children and I started scrapping on Saturday night and the party was on Sunday (pressure???? No way............) At first my printer did not want to print and after that I just could not find what I wanted to use (and I knew I had it............Aaaargh)

Even though I did not have a whole lot of time I was pretty content with the final result. And........ it was my first time sewing on a layout!

I framed it in Ikea's Ribba frame (50x50 cm) and gave it away. They loved it. I love the Ribba frames to frame my layouts in. Their outer size is 50x50 cm and the inner size is 30x30cm. So just a half a centimetre smaller than my LO's. Perfect! I personally like the white ones, but they also come in black, silver and a couple of wood colours. I think white is the best because the main focus will stay on the layout. But I guess that is just a matter of taste.

Vrienden van ons vierden afgelopen weekend hun verjaardagen en ik weet dat zij mijn layouts die boven de eettafel hangen erg mooi vindt. Ze stuurde mij een paar foto's van haar drie kinderen en ikben aan de salg gegaan. Zij vierden hun verjaardagen op zondag en ik ging zaterdagavond aan de slag (Stress? Helemaal niet.............) Het erge was nog dat eerst mijn printer niet wilde printen en vervolgens kon ik niet vinden waar ik mee wilde werken (en ik wist zeker dat ik het had.......................Ggggrrrrrrrrrrrrr........)

Ondanks dat ik niet zo heel veel tijd had was ik toch erg tevreden met het uiteindelijke resultaat. En......... het was de eerste keer dat ik genaaid heb op een layout!

Ik heb de layout ingelijst in de Ribba (50x50cm) lijst van Ikea, ingepakt en weggegeven. Ze vonden het erg mooi. Ik vind de Ribba lijsten geweldig om mijn layouts in in te lijsten. De buitenmaat van de lijst is 50x50 centimeter en de binnenmaat 30x30 centimeter, dus net een halve centimeter kleiner dan mijn layouts. Perfect dus!

Ik heb een persoonlijke voorkeur voor de witte lijsten maar ze zijn er in zilver, zwart en een aantal houtkleuren. Ik vind dat met een witte de aandacht het meeste op de layout ligt. Maar dat is ook een kwestie van persoonlijke smaak.

Een fijne week allemaal!

Cute little Birthday Gift / Leuk klein verjaardagskadootje

Saturday Joram's BFF Merel is turning 9. Joram and Merel met at playgroup when they were two-and-a-half and they have been inseparable ever since. One year at school they were in separate classes cause the teachers thought they should also interact with others. They could not care less and played with each other every break and after school. After that year they were in the same class again and they still are. They can talk like a couple that has been married for 50 years but they can also giggle like two little kids.

I decided to attach a little extra onto her gift and made this little candy holder from a package which use to have brads in there. You con't really have to put candy in there, you can fill it with whatever you want. The only restriction is that it has to fit. It can be a great package for little hair bows, peppermints, a tea bag, a cookie or even a gift card. Be creative and reuse those packages! These packages are used for so many products, not only scrapbook supplies en come in all sorts and sizes.

This is how I did it:

Get the inner card (the original card) and trace that on to patterned paper twice (because you will see the back when you turn the package) and cut. It is very handy to have the inner card, it will save you a lot of measuring and extra cutting) If you do not have the inner card anymore you just have to measure and hope it all turns out well. It gives it the extra little swung when the contents of the package match the patterned paper (like my candy matches the patterned paper)

If you put a tea bag in there you can replace the tag of the teabag (the little label) with patterned paper. A great way to invite someone over for tea!

Add the contents to the package (make sure you clean it well if you want to put any food products in there) and attach a tag in matching colors with some ribbon. All ready for giving!!!!!!

The tag was made with the Quickutz and Silhouette an the border was made with the EK Success border punch (love the tiny scalloped one!)

If your package has a cardstock backing (mostly printed with advertisement or manual) you can either cover that with patterned paper or replace it for cardstock.

What about reusing a pencil package with the same pencils after you have covered those pencils with patterned paper? The possibilities are endless!

Joram zijn allerbeste vriendinnetje wordt zaterdag alweer 9. Joram en /Merel kennen elkaar sinds dat ze twee-en-een-half zijn en zijn sindsdien onafscheidelijk. Op school hebben ze een jaar niet bij elkaar in de klas gezeten omdat de leerkrachten vonden dat ze ook met andere kinderen moesten omgaan. Uiteindelijk speelden ze in de pauzes en na school ook weer gewoon met elkaar. Het jaar daarna zijn ze weer bij elkaar in de klas gekomen en dat zitten ze nu nog steeds. Ze kunnen gesprekken met elkaar voeren alsof ze al 50 jaar getrouwd zijn, maar ze kunnen ook giechelen als twee kleine kinderen.

Ik besloot om iets extra's aan haar cadeautje toe te voegen en maakte een houder voor wat snoep. De houder is een hergebruikte verpakking (in dit geval van brads). Je hoeft er niet perse snoep in te doen, je kan er in doen wat je wil. De enige voorwaarde is dat het er in past. Het kan een geweldige verpakking zijn voor een paar haarelastiekjes, pepermuntjes, een zakje thee, een koekje or een cadeaubon. Verpakkingen als deze zijn er in alle soorten en maten. Wees creatief en recycle die verpakkingen!

Hoe heb ik het gemaakt?

Haar het binnenste kartonnetje uit de verpakking en trek dit twee maal over op dessinpapier (een voor beide kanten, je ziet immers ook de achterkant als je de verpakking omdraait. Als je dit kartonnetje niet meer hebt is het ook niet erg, maar het maakt het makkelijker als je hem wel hebt. Als je het kartonnetje niet meer hebt is het een kwestie van goed meten. Ik heb het een beetje aantrekkelijker gemaakt door het dessinpapier en de inhoud op elkaar af te laten stemmen.

Als je besluit om een theezakje in de verpakking te doen is het leuk om het labeltje van het zakje te vervangen door eentje van dessinpapier. Leuk om iemand op de thee uit te nodigen!

Doe de inhoud in de verpakking (zorg dat de verpakking goed schoon is als je er etenswaren in gaat verpakken), doe er een label aan en het is klaar om te geven. Het label is gemaakt met de Quickutz en de Silhouette en de rand geponst met een EK Success randpons (ik vind die small scalopped geweldig!)

Als je verpakking een kartonnen achterkant heeft (waar meestal een advertentie opstaat of de gebruiksaanwijzing) kun je deze vervangen door cardstock of hem bekleden met dessinpapier.

Wat dacht je van een verpakking voor potloden hergebruiken met dezelfde potloden nadat je deze bekleed hebt met dessinpapier? De mogelijkheden zijn eindeloos.

Joram has been having his steady group of friends over the years. Merel is and has always been his favorite, I think that place is takes for the rest of his life (well, until he's 10, LOL) One of his other good friends is Nienke. Nienkes mom Diana had her birthday last Sunday and instead of giving a party she dicided they were going to take the kids out for the day and both their kids were allowed to invite a friend. So last Sunday at 10 Joram was picked up and they spent the day at Mondo Verde. I must admit, I had never heard of it, but Joram had a great time. Too bad the weather was not really too good and they even had hail during the day. I did not want to let Joram go empty handed so I arranged some pics of her two kids and made a scrapbook on the wall for her. I matched their new couch with the colors I picked and I must admit: I was very happy with the result. And thank goodness: So was Diana!

10 000 bezoekers! / 10 000 visitors!

Ik keek net op de bezoekersteller en zag dat ik 10 000 bezoekers heb gehad. Toch wel reden voor een feestje. En omdat ik niet jarig ben ga ik een cadeautje weggeven. En om het nog net een beetje spannender te maken heb ik het volgende bedacht. We maken er een uitdaging van! Dit is de uitdaging: Maak een layout over een nummer. Dat kan een verjaardag zijn, een huisnummer en zelfs een lievelingsnummer. Kortom gebruik je fantasie!

Laat een bericht achter met daarin een link naar je layout en ik zal op 10 december een winnaar bekend maken! Veel succes!

Afscheidscadeau voor de juf / Goodbye gift for teacher

Het is een leuke gewoonte om aan het einde van het schooljaar een cadeautje voor de leerkracht te verzinnen. Het moeilijkste is om iets orginieels te verzinnen en niet (weer) aan te komen met chocolade of kaarsen. Vorig jaar hebben we een dvd gemaakt met daarop uitspraken van de kinderen over de leerkrachten. Een geweldig leuk idee met een heel goed resultaat. En dit jaar zijn we natuurlijk ook weer creatief bezig geweest (vooral de kinderen!!!!) We hadden al een leuk cadeautje voor de verjaardag van de juf. De kinderen hebben met porceleinverf allemaal hun naam geschreven op een theepot. Die hebben we gebakken (zodat ie ook gebruikt kan worden) en met twee bijpassende mokken cadeau gedaan aan Juf Esther. Normaal gesproken zou ik nu foto's geplaatst hebben van het cadeautje, maar het is nog niet helemaal klaar en ik weet dat Juf Esther wel eens over deze blog surft. Dus nu maar twee foto's om haar nieuwsgierig te maken. Juf Esther: Nog heel even geduld!

It's a great habit to give the teacher a goodbye gift at the end of the school year. The hardest thing is to come up with something original and not to show up with chocolate or candles. Last year we made a dvd on which the children all talked about their teacher. A great idea with such a nice result. And this year we have tried to be creative again (especially the children!!!) We already gave Miss Esther a nice gift for her birthday. All the children wrote their name on a tea pot with porcelain paint. We baked it so she could actually use it and gave it to her with two matching mugs. Normally I now would have posted some pictures of this years gift here, but it's not completely done yet and I know that miss Esther sometimes visits this blog. So; just two pictures to make her curious. Miss Esther: A little more patience!

Elise is jarig! / It's Elise's birthday!

Vandaag is Elise jarig! En dat vraagt om een feestje en een kadootje. Eerdere jaren heb ik al mini-albums voor haar gescrapt en dit jaar wilde ik toch iets anders. En dan ga ik er nu van uit dat zij het komende half uur niet meer mijn weblog bezoekt.
Ik heb een magnetisch memobord gescrapt en in een mooie lijst gedaan. Met mijn Bind-it-All heb ik een notitieboekje gemaakt (Wat een geweldig apparaat, ik ben helemaal blij) Ik heb een foto van haar drie meiden gelamineerd en in een chipboard frame geplakt. Veel werk, maar een erg leuk resultaat. Ik hoop dat ze er blij mee is!

Today is Elise's birthday! That is reason for a party and a present. In the years before I already made her mini albums so I thought it would be time for a change. I do hope that she will not be visiting my weblog in the next half hour or so.

I scrapped a magnetic board and framed it. With my Bind-it-All (awesome machine, I am very happy with it) I laminated a picture of her three girls and framed it in chipboard. A lot of work, but with a great result. Now let's hope she likes it!

Jezelf verwennen / Treat yourself

Vandaag kwam onze Spaanse bezorgman (iedereen die hier woont en wel eens een pakje afgeleverd krijgt weet wie ik bedoel) met een geweldig pak: Een aantal weken geleden heb ik een aantal Zutter producten besteld en vandaag werden ze dus afgeleverd. Als een kind zo blij. Ik heb nog geen tijd gehad om ze uit te proberen maar ook dat zal wel goed komen. De Bind-it-all is een inbindmachine die werkt met de metalen ringen, waardoor je je eigen spiraalboekjes kan maken. Je kan er heel veel producten mee inbinden, er zit zelfs een handleiding bij voor kentekenplaten! Daarnaast heb ik de tas besteld waarmee je de Bind-it-all makkelijk kan vervoeren. En om het plaatje compleet te maken: De toolkit (voor minder scrap-ervaren mensen onder ons: Een gereedschapsset, speciaal vervaardigd voor een specifiek product). Verder kon ik het niet laten en heb ik ook de Round-it-all besteld. Ik loop al bijna een jaar te verkondigen dat het echt eens tijd wordt voor een betere hoekpons. Maar het liefst wilde ik er ook eentje die door dikke materialen kan. Afgelopen maand kwamen er twee van deze ponsen uit: De PaperGator van Around the Block en de Round-it-All van Zutter. The PaperGator is een veel groter apparaat, maar kan ook veel grotere diktes aan. Had ik dat wel nodig? Nee dus, ik hoek immers geen hele boeken af te ronden. Dus koos ik voor de Round-it-All. Ook veel kleiner en dus makkelijk op te bergen, mee te nemen en te hanteren. Jullie snappen al wat ik vanavond aan het doen ben!

Today our Spanish mailman, package deliverer was on our doorstep. Everybody from our neighbourhood who has packages delivered knows who I mean. He had this awesome package for me! A couple of weeks ago I ordered some Zutter products and today they were delivered on my doorstep! I felt like a kid in a candy store. I did not have time yet to try them out, but I am sure I will find some time here or there. The Bind-it-All is a binding machine that works with o-wires. That gives you the possibilities to make your own journals, albums and so on. It even has a manual for binding lisence plates. I also ordered the tote for putting your machine in and beside that the matching tool kit. And because I was shopping anyway; I ordered the Round-it-All. For the last year I have been telling myself I need a new corner rounder. My wish was to have one that can also handle thicker materials. Last month two of these punches were launched. One was the PaperGator by Around the Block and the other is; the Round-it-All by Zutter. The PaperGator is a lot bigger but can also handle much thicker products (it can handle a whole book) Did I really needed a punch to corner a whole book? NOPE. So I ordered the Round-it-All. A lot smaller and therefor a lot easier to store and to take a long. Well, you know what I will be doing tonight!

Reese's Peanut Butter Cups

In Nederland niet te krijgen, maar een absolute favoriet van manlief Richard: Reese's Peanut Butter Cups. Een soort pindakaasmengsel omhuld met chocolade.Klinkt niet zo heel lekker maar is het echt. Ik had bij de bibliotheek een kookboek van Nigella Lawson geleend, 'Hoe word ik een goddelijke huisvrouw' (Wat een titel, ik heb het ook niet verzonnen) en daarin vond ik het copy cat recept van Reese's Peanut Butter Cups. Een heel makkelijk recept, in een kwartiertje klaar en geen oven of iets voor nodig! Wat wil een mens nog meer. Die heb ik dus gisteren gemaakt enne............ze waren goddelijk. Ik heb er een aantal leuk verpakt en met een kaartje aan Nicolle gegeven (Je weet wel, voor de 'inspiratie' voor Joram zijn kamer. En zij wilde het recept ook hebben.

Voor de liefhebbers: Het recept

voor het deeg

50 gr donkerbruine basterdsuiker

200 gr poedersuiker

50 gr boter

200 gr pindakaas (zonder nootjes)

voor de topping

300 pure chocolade

1 el boter

Voeg alle ingredienten voor het deeg bij elkaar en maak er met de mixer een kruimelig deeg van. Er blijven waarschijnlijk klontjes basterdsuiker zichtbaar, maar dat is niet erg. Bekladd een koekjesvorm of een ovenschaal (grote) met bakpapier (echt doen, anders krijg je ze er NOOIT meer uit) en doe het deeg in de vorm. Druk het heel stevig aan (geweldig klusje voor de kids) Smelt dan de boter en de chocolade au-bain-marie en giet deze over het deeg en zorg dat het hele deeg bedekt is. Laat dit afkoelen in de koelkast tot de chocolade weer hard is. In kleine blokjes snijden (want het is heel machtig) en voila!

Impossible to get here in The Netherlands but my DH absolute favorite snack: Reese's Peanut Butter Cups. I took a book by Nigella Lawson from the Library (How to be a domestic goddes) and it had a copy cat recipe in there. Had to try. Well, I did and it turned out soooo yummy! I wrapped some for Nicolle (remember, the 'inspiration' she gave me for Jorams room?) and put a little thank you note with it. She loved it. So for those who like to try: Here's the recipe:

For the dough:

50 gr dark brown sugar

200 gr icing sugar

50 gr butter

200 gr peanut butter (the plain one)

For the topping:

300 gr dark chocolate

1 tbs butter

Mix all the ingredients for the dough together. The dough won't get firm, but it doesn't have to. Put waxed paper in a cookie pan and firmly press the dough in (Great job for the kids) Melt the chocolate and poor it over de dough mixture. Even it out. Let it cool down inthe fridge until the chocolate is hard again. Cut in small pieces. That's it!

Inspiratie

Mijn inspiratie komt echt overal vandaan. Van bladen en boeken die ik lees, van advertenties die ik zie, maar ook van alledaagse dingen. een stapel boeken, een mooi opgemaakt bed of een lekker uitziend gerecht. Kortom; het kan zo breed zijn als je maar wilt. Een van mijn favoriete websites als het gaat om inspiratie opdoen is Williams-Sonoma. Een winkel die niets te doen heeft met creativiteit of hobbie, maar soms prachtige composities neerzet. Soms doe ik ook inspiratie op als ik in de etalages van winkels kijk of zelfs heel eenvoudig: Kijk eens wat mensen aan hebben, hoe ze verschillende stoffen, patronen of texturen combineren. Inspiratie ligt voor het grijpen. Nu nog aan de slag.

Ik heb net een cadeautje af voor iemand die gisteren heel veel voor mij heeft betekent. Ik vraag me af of zij zich dat zelf realiseert, maar ik vond dat ik haar toch op een leuke manier moest bedanken. Geen groot cadeau, maar wel heel leuk en lekker en vooral: recht uit het hart. Als ik het gegeven heb zal ik de foto's plaatsen. Ik weet dat ze soms mijn weblog leest en ik wil natuurlijk niet de pret bederven!

I can get inspiration out of anything! I can get inspiration from books and mags, but also from pretty every day stuff: A pile of books, a nice made bed or a divine looking dish. One of my favorite websites to get inspiration is Williams-Sonoma, not so much for their products, but I just love how they arrange their supplies. Not all the time, but sometimes it looks so good. I can also get inspiration out of window shopping or even more simple: Takin a look at what people wear: What colors and patterns are they combining? Inspiration is anywhere!

I just finished a little gift for a friend who meant a lot for me yesterday. I wonder if she realizes that. Neverteless I thought I should thank her. Not a big or expensive gift; but a nice and delicious one and: Coming straight from the heart. I will poist some pics after I gave the present. I know she's reading my blog and do not want to have a spoiler here!
